      Air Passenger Rights & Compensation

As a passenger flying with Air India Express, you have specific rights in the event of flight delays, cancellations, or denied boarding, especially when traveling to or from European Union (EU) countries. EU Regulation EC 261/2004 (also known as EU 261) safeguards your rights if your flight departs from an airport within the EU, or if you are arriving in the EU on an EU-based airline, such as Air India Express.

If your Air India Express flight is delayed by more than three hours or cancelled without sufficient notice, you may be entitled to financial compensation. The amount of compensation depends on the flight distance:

      • For flights up to 1,500 km: €250 per passenger
      • For flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km: €400 per passenger
      • For flights over 3,500 km: €600 per passenger

Compensation eligibility applies if your flight was significantly delayed, cancelled less than 14 days before departure, or you were denied boarding due to overbooking. However, extraordinary circumstances (such as severe weather or air traffic control strikes) may exempt the airline from compensation obligations.

To claim compensation under EU 261, your flight must either originate from an EU airport or, if arriving into the EU, be operated by an EU-registered carrier. For Air India Express flights, compensation applies if your journey starts in the EU. If your flight departs from outside the EU and arrives in the EU, EU 261 applies only if the airline is EU-based; as Air India Express is not an EU airline, this does not apply in such cases.

Compensation can be claimed for flight delays exceeding three hours at the final destination, cancellations, or denied boarding. It's vital to keep your boarding pass, booking confirmation, and all correspondence with the airline when pursuing a claim.
