      Air Passenger Rights & Compensation

If your Middle East Airlines flight is delayed, cancelled, or overbooked, you may be entitled to compensation under EU Regulation EC 261/2004. This law protects air passenger rights for flights departing from an EU airport, or arriving in the EU on an EU-based airline, such as MEA. Compensation applies if your flight was delayed by more than 3 hours, cancelled without sufficient notice, or if you were denied boarding due to overbooking.

Eligibility for Compensation: To claim compensation under EC 261, your flight must have:

      • Departed from an EU airport (any airline), or
      • Arrived at an EU airport on a European carrier (even if departing from outside the EU).

For Middle East Airlines, compensation applies for flights departing from the EU. If your MEA flight originated outside the EU and landed in the EU, EC 261 does not apply, as MEA is not an EU carrier.

Compensation Amounts: The amount you can claim depends on the flight distance:

      • Up to 1,500 km: €250 per passenger
      • 1,500 km to 3,500 km: €400 per passenger
      • Over 3,500 km: €600 per passenger (for flights between an EU and non-EU airport)

Compensation rights apply when the delay is not caused by extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather or air traffic control strikes.
