      Air Passenger Rights & Compensation

If your Red Wings flight is delayed or cancelled, you may be entitled to compensation under European Union regulations, specifically EU 261/2004 (EC 261). These regulations protect passengers traveling on flights departing from an EU airport, or arriving in the EU on an EU-based airline. Since Red Wings is not an EU airline, EC 261 applies only if your flight departs from an EU airport, regardless of your final destination.

According to EU 261, you could be eligible for compensation if your flight is delayed by more than three hours upon arrival, or if your flight is cancelled without at least 14 days’ notice. The amount of compensation depends on the distance of your flight:

      • Flights up to 1,500 km: €250 per passenger
      • Flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km: €400 per passenger
      • Flights over 3,500 km: €600 per passenger

Compensation may not be owed if the disruption is caused by extraordinary circumstances, such as severe weather or air traffic control strikes. However, technical issues or operational problems are generally not considered extraordinary. In addition to compensation, passengers are entitled to care (such as meals, refreshments, and accommodation if necessary) during long delays.

To qualify for compensation, your flight must have departed from an EU country, or you must have arrived in the EU on an EU-based airline. Since Red Wings is not an EU carrier, EC 261 compensation applies only to flights departing from the EU.
