As a passenger flying with Turkish Airlines, you are protected under EU Regulation 261/2004 (EU 261/EC 261) if your flight departs from an EU country, or arrives in the EU with Turkish Airlines (as it is a non-EU carrier) on a flight departing from an EU airport. This regulation ensures that you receive care, assistance, and potentially financial compensation if your flight is delayed, cancelled, or overbooked.
If your Turkish Airlines flight is delayed by more than 3 hours upon arrival, or cancelled without sufficient notice, you may be eligible for compensation. The amount of compensation depends on the flight distance:
Compensation applies if the delay or cancellation was not caused by extraordinary circumstances (such as severe weather or air traffic control strikes). Additionally, if your flight is delayed by 2 hours or more, you are entitled to meals, refreshments, and communication, and for longer delays, accommodation and transport between the airport and hotel.
Turkish Airlines is required to offer you the choice between a refund or re-routing if your flight is cancelled. If you are denied boarding due to overbooking, you may also claim compensation under the same rules.
Remember: EU 261 compensation rights are only applicable if your journey started in the EU, regardless of your nationality or the airline's country of registration. For flights departing from outside the EU, EU 261 applies only if you are flying to an EU destination with an EU carrier, which does not include Turkish Airlines.
If your Turkish Airlines flight was delayed or cancelled, Voos can review your claim and, if eligible, pursue it with the airline on your behalf. Our service is risk-free – fees are only charged if your claim is successful. Depending on your specific case, compensation of up to €600 per person may be possible.
