      Air Passenger Rights & Compensation

If your Kenya Airways flight was delayed, cancelled, or overbooked, you may be entitled to compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004 (EC 261), provided certain criteria are met. These regulations apply if your flight departed from an EU country, regardless of the airline, or if your flight arrived in the EU and was operated by an EU-based carrier. Since Kenya Airways is not an EU airline, EC 261 covers flights departing from the EU only.

If your Kenya Airways flight originating from an EU airport was delayed by more than three hours, cancelled at short notice, or you were denied boarding, you may claim compensation. The amount of compensation depends on the flight distance:

      • For flights up to 1,500 km: €250 per passenger
      • For flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km: €400 per passenger
      • For flights over 3,500 km: €600 per passenger

Compensation claims may be valid if the disruption was within the airline’s control and not due to extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather or air traffic control strikes. In addition to financial compensation, you may be entitled to care such as meals, refreshments, and accommodation depending on the length of your delay.

Remember, EC 261 only covers flights that:

      • Depart from an airport located in the EU, regardless of the airline
      • Arrive in an EU country on an EU-based airline (not applicable for Kenya Airways inbound flights)
