Air Passenger Rights & Compensation for Delayed or Cancelled Emirates Flights

As an Emirates passenger, you may be entitled to compensation if your flight is delayed or cancelled under certain circumstances. If your Emirates flight departs from an airport within the European Union (EU), or if you are flying to the EU on an EU-based carrier, your rights are protected by EU Regulation 261/2004 (commonly known as EU 261 or EC 261). This regulation ensures that passengers are compensated for significant delays, cancellations, or denied boarding due to overbooking.

To be eligible for compensation, your Emirates flight must have originated within the EU. Flights departing from outside the EU to the EU on a non-EU carrier such as Emirates are not covered by EU 261. Compensation amounts are determined by the length of the delay and the flight distance. For delays of three hours or more, or cancellations notified less than 14 days before departure, you may be entitled to:

      • €250 per passenger for flights up to 1,500 km
      • €400 per passenger for flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km
      • €600 per passenger for flights over 3,500 km

Compensation may not be payable if the disruption was caused by extraordinary circumstances, such as severe weather or air traffic control strikes. In addition to financial compensation, passengers are entitled to care such as meals, refreshments, and accommodation, depending on the length of the delay.
